Why parents should sign and what happens when they do?

By signing this pledge, you commit to delaying smartphone access for your child until they are at least 14 years old. You can still provide a basic phone for calls and texts while adhering to the pledge, as these devices avoid many of the distractions and risks associated with smartphones.

The pledge activates when 5 families from your child’s grade sign the pledge. Upon activation, Unplugged Canada will notify you of the pledge’s activation and share a list of family surnames who have signed so you can connect.

This network of like-minded families offers mutual support and reinforces your commitment.

En signant cet engagement, vous acceptez de retarder l’accès au smartphone pour votre enfant jusqu’à ses 14 ans. Vous pouvez toutefois lui fournir un téléphone basique pour les appels et les messages, qui évite les distractions et risques liés aux smartphones.

L’engagement s’active quand 5 familles de la classe de votre enfant le signent. Unplugged Canada vous en avertira et fournira une liste des signataires pour vous connecter.

How To Sign The Pledge?

1. To sign the pledge, your child must be younger than 14.
2. You can sign the pledge for all your children at once. To add another child to a pledge form, simply select “add another child” on the form.
3. If your child is not in school yet, you can select that option and email us at [email protected] as soon as you know the kindergarten school your child will attend.
4. If your child is attending school, and since the majority of pledges are organized by school, it is very important to correctly identify your child’s school in our database when filling out the pledge form. To find your child’s school in our database, type one or two keywords from the school name and hit the magnifier icon on the form. Avoid words such as “the,” “elementary,” “middle,” “junior,” and “school”.
5. If you cannot find your child’s current or next school, please email us at [email protected] with the names of the schools you wish to add to our database.
6. On the pledge form, we ask for your child’s current school and next school. Please enter the current school your child attends and also the next school your child will attend, which might be an upper elementary school, intermediate school, junior high school, middle school, or high school. Please note that you only need to sign the pledge once, and we will renew the pledge every year for your child until your child turns 14 years old. If your child changes schools, let us know by emailing us at [email protected] to make the corresponding changes in our pledge database.
7. Unplugged is only taking pledges from Canada at the moment.

Comment signer l’engagement?

1. Pour signer l’engagement, votre enfant doit avoir moins de 14 ans.
2. Vous pouvez signer l’engagement pour tous vos enfants en une seule fois. Pour ajouter un autre enfant au formulaire d’engagement, il vous suffit de sélectionner « ajouter un autre enfant » sur le formulaire.
3. Si votre enfant n’est pas encore scolarisé, sélectionnez cette option et écrivez-nous à [email protected] dès que vous connaissez son école maternelle.
4. Si votre enfant est scolarisé, il est important de bien identifier son école dans notre base de données lors du remplissage du formulaire d’engagement. Pour la trouver, saisissez un ou deux mots-clés du nom de l’école et cliquez sur l’icône de loupe. Veuillez éviter d’utiliser des mots comme « le », « élémentaire », « intermédiaire », « junior » ou « école », car ils peuvent empêcher de trouver l’école correcte.
5. Si vous ne trouvez pas l’école actuelle ou future de votre enfant, veuillez nous envoyer un courriel à [email protected] avec les noms des écoles que vous souhaitez ajouter à notre base de données.
6. Dans le formulaire d’engagement, indiquez l’école actuelle et la prochaine école de votre enfant, qu’il s’agisse d’une école élémentaire, intermédiaire, collège ou lycée. Vous n’avez à signer l’engagement qu’une seule fois, et nous le renouvelons chaque année jusqu’à ses 14 ans.
